Some say that the country appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sports to request the cancellation of this decision by the African Football Confederation (CAF).

No, Cameroon has not appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to oppose the organization of the African Cup of Nations, in which 24 teams are to face each other, starting from 2019, as against 16 teams previously.

That year, the event will in fact be held in Albert Roger Milla’s country, African footballer of the century. This was revealed in a statement from Tombi Roko, President of Cameroon’s football federation (FECAFOOT). “We were notified that M. Abdouraman Hamadou Babba, pretending to act in the name of the Etoile filante de Garoua, a member of the Cameroonian football federation, appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport for the cancellation of the decision of the CAF’s executive committee last July 20 to increase the participating teams from 16 to 24 in the final phase of the 2019 African Cup of Nations,” says FECAFOOT’s president in his communiqué. “The Cameroonian Football Federation represented by its president Tombi A Roko, and the government of the Republic, reaffirms its will to respect the decision of CAF’s committee,” he adds.

According to M. Roko, FECAFOOT will contribute to the efforts of the government and the African Football Confederation towards the successful organization of the first-ever 24-team African Cup of Nations (CAN).
