About one hundred employees currently find themselves in the street and without salary according to what some people are saying.

The rumour announced the dismissal of about one hundred employees working for the Chinese company China First Highway Engineering Co Ltd (CFHEC) in charge of levelling the ground for the construction site of the first phase of the Yaoundé-Douala motorway (20 km out of a total of 215 km).

If it is not exactly true, stopblablacam.com nevertheless has proof that activities have been suspended for these Cameroonian employees.

Actually, through a memo dated 29 April 2017 of which we obtained a copy, the management of the Human Resources department of the Chinese company addressed the employees in these terms: “we are sorry to inform you that considering the delays in receiving payment from the contracting authority for some time, the management of CFHEC has decided to halt the operations of the workers in charge of levelling activities for the first phase of the Yaoundé-Douala freeway starting from 2 May 2017”.

China First Highway Engineering Co Ltd added that, during the shutdown period, payment of salaries will be done in compliance with the laws and regulations. The shutdown period will last a month starting from 2 May 2017 and this period could be extended if the need arises.

As a reminder, the project for the construction of the Yaoundé-Douala motorway is meant to build a modern road network of about 215 km between the two main cities in Cameroon. The global cost lf the works is of FCfa 284 billion.
