Contrary to what some internet users were led to believe, the Customs administration boss repeats that he does not have a Facebook account.

Not a month goes by without a Cameroonian senior civil servant complaining about being the victim of people with malicious intents on social networks. In most cases, individuals open Facebook accounts, for example, in their name, and get in touch with ordinary citizens, who are sometimes not vigilant and believe them to be real members of the government or managing directors of public institutions. This is what happened to the current Managing Director of the Customs Office.

On 28 December 2016, Fongod Edwin Nuvaga published a communiqué in which, he personally informed the national and international public that “a Facebook account was fraudulently opened in his name”. He specified that he does not have a Facebook account anymore and alert those who, in good faith, might be tempted or have already been in touch with this fake profile.

Fongod Edwin Nuvaga indicates that the account already identified are: “Edwin Fongod Navaga” and Edwin “Fongod Nuvaga”. Moreover, the Managing Director of the Customs Office declares that he reserves the right to take legal action against any individual who uses his name or his pictures to publish false information and attempt to abuse honest people.
