Orange Cameroon reduced the withdrawal fees for Orange Money.

The reduction of money transfer fees by Orange Cameroon has not been highly criticized as the fees increase on August 1st, 2017. Though some people are still skeptical, since October 20, 2017, Orange Cameroon did reduce the withdrawal fees for its mobile money service. This is reflected in the new commissions during mobile money transactions.

Orange Cameroon explained that, previously, the withdrawal fee on CFA500, was CFA100. Nowadays, however, it is CFA35. The commission on CFA12,000 is now CFA300 while it was CFA400 previously.

The fees reduction follows the joint request, sent on August 2, to sanction MTN and Orange Cameroonby Minette Libom Li Likeng, Cameroon’s minister of post and telecommunications, the ICT and telecommunication products and services consumers’ (Fédération des associations des consommateurs des produits et services des télécommunications et TIC-Factics), after those two telecommunication operators increased the fees for their mobile money service.

Factics explained that Orange infringed article 12 of Orange Money’s specific terms of service which stipulates that “Orange Cameroon reserves the right to modify at any time the terms of service or the fees of Orange Money. In case of modification, subscribers will be notified 30 days prior to its enforcement”.
