There are currently zero cases of polio in Cameroon

Rumors suggest that the polio vaccine would be harmful. They say it makes people sterile and that vaccination campaigns were boycotted in Cameroon. This, of course, is not true.

In April 2019, for example, the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) estimated vaccine refusal rate at 10%. But fortunately, Cameroon is now polio-free. Since 2018, “there has been no more cases of poliomyelitis,” said a source at Unicef.

However, regular vaccination campaigns such as the one carried out on 29-31 March 2019 are continuing this year in the country to prevent the resurgence of the disease (between 2016 and 2018, cases of type 1 and type 2 of this disease were reported in neighboring Nigeria).
