Some sellers recycle rotten rice, whose expiry date has passed, in new bags and sell them in markets.

This could be unbelievable but, it is true. In Cameroon, rotten rice is sold in some markets. Indeed, during a raid at Mfoundi market on August 27, 2019, the fraud control unit of the ministry of trade’s delegation in the area seized many bags of rotten rice already recycled in new bags.

Thanks to consumers’ denunciations, the unit was able to also seize the tools those sellers use to recycle the rice.

The unit also learnt that sometimes, rice destined for livestock feeding is recycled to be sold for human consumption. Buyers beware then !!!
