A new scam promises Carrefour coupons

Paru le vendredi, 13 mars 2020 12:44

A message that is being shared on WhatsApp in Cameroon claims that Carrefour is offering a €500 coupon to celebrate the opening of new stores worldwide. “Win a €500 coupon from Carrefour. We are celebrating the opening of new stores around the world so we are offering coupons,” the message reads.

Attached to this message, which supposedly comes from the French retailer itself is a link that takes users to a form including questions like “How did you hear about our offer?” or “How often do you shop?” etc. Once this form is filled, the user is taken to another page with a “Congratulations” message. After the latter, the next page lists steps to follow to win the coupon in question. Here, the user is asked to first share the message with 20 WhatsApp friends or groups and click on “Continue.”  It is finally after this step that comes the following message: “Your coupon will be ready in a few minutes.”

Beware! This is a scam. Even discarding the multiple spelling errors present in the offer, it remains that it was not posted on the official website of Carrefour (www.carrefour.com). This is another phishing scheme to collect users’ data. It is therefore advised to refrain from clicking on any link, or submitting any personal detail or contact information.
