That’s the smell of a scam

A photo recently shared on social media suggested there is a recruitment process currently ongoing at the Cameroonian customs administration. Candidates are invited to prepare a file containing a copy of the national ID, the birth certificate and the diploma (baccalaureate level). Subscription fee required is XAF14, 500 and the deadline for applications is 2 September 2019.

Interested candidates are asked to contact a WhatsApp number (+237 691 79 79 64 38) for more information. And that’s where the problem is; how can a public administration like Customs recruit via social media? That’s the smell of a scam.

Another thing is that the document mentions the President of the Republic as if it’s the President of the Republic who initiated the recruitment process; another bizarre thing, right?

“A fake press release has been circulating for several days on social media indicating the organization of a competition to recruit staff in the customs administration. Referring to this, the Director General of Customs wishes to deny such information. The organization of administrative competitions is the exclusive responsibility of the Ministry of Civil Service and Administrative Reform,” the communication unit of the Cameroonian customs warns.

Fongod Edwin Nuvaga, the Managing Director of Customs, urged citizens to be wary of such ads.
