Falsified leishmaniasis injections have been discovered in Iran and Pakistan named GLUTAMINE and GLUCANTIME.

In a press release published on April 30, 2019, the minister of public health Dr Manouada Malachi informed that two counterfeited medicines supposed to treat leishmaniasis have been discovered in Iran and Pakistan. According to the release, this is indicated in the World Health Organization’s Medical Product Alert N°7/2019.

The said drugs are Glutamine and Glucantime injections manufactured respectively in November 2018 and March 2018. Their respective expiry dates are October 2021 and February 2021.

On both of them, there is the mention "manufactured for Tillotts Pharma AG" but Tillotts Pharma AG confirmed that it does not manufacture or distribute such products nor has it contracted any group to do so on its behalf.

Laboratory testing of the Glucantime products are ongoing but those for Glutamine reveal that the product was not manufactured according to standard.

In the release, the minister of health calls for more caution or a halt in using such products if people have started using them. Those already using the drugs are invited to get in touch with the general inspection of laboratories and pharmaceutical services at Cette adresse e-mail est protégée contre les robots spammeurs.
