The said document serves as a tax or non-tax certificate and its issuance is free of charge.

On social media, some people claim that candidates for the municipal and legislative elections scheduled for February 2020 in Cameroon, must submit many documents including trade registry, income tax, and personal income tax certificates. That is not true.

The correct information is contained in a press release signed on November 14, 2019, by the Director-General of Taxation, Modeste Mopa Fatoing. “In accordance with the legislation in force, the clearance certificate is the only tax document to be provided on the documents constituting the candidature files of the persons concerned,” the director wrote.

According to him, this clearance certificate serves as a tax or non-tax certificate and attests of the regularity of the holder's tax situation.

Mr. Mopa Fatoing invites candidates to contact the tax services, where they usually carry out their tax operations, in order to obtain the said document, upon presentation of a simple stamped request. He also reminds that the issuance of such certificate is free of charge.
