Some people still believe that there is no link between the customs authority and the authority in charge of taxation.

From July 2, 2018, people who owed taxes could not clear goods. This is the main message of an announcement published by Luis Paul Motaze, Cameroon’s finance minister, on July 18, 2018.

In the announcement, the minister wrote: “The minister of finance informs the taxpayers of the import/export sector that are not listed in the tax directorate’s record that from now on, they will not be able to clear their goods if they do not regularize their fiscal situation”.

The taxpayers concerned by the announcement are therefore invited to contact the general tax directorate, to register in the directorate’s active record and fulfill their fiscal duties to stay in the database.

The minister also stressed that the public administrations, diplomatic missions, international organizations, operations relative to goods transit for non-commercial purposes are not concerned by that measure.
