On 25 October, a bus leaving Yaoundé (Centre) for Bafoussam (West) was assaulted and passengers were stripped of their money. Some passengers were even forced to give their MoMo account password and of course, the attackers quickly transferred the savings. But victims can still get their money back in their account. How? Let’s find out. “If you are forced by a bandit to empty your Mobile Money account in order to transfer it to his, contact the number 8787 so that your money is returned to you,” said Alain Claude Nono, director of MTN Mobile Money.
MTN Cameroon has carried out awareness and education campaigns for users on how to secure their Mobile Money (MoMo) account to counter the phenomenon of scams. Campaigns are also being initiated by other mobile operators such as Orange Cameroon.
