You could be jailed if you forget a dangerous item in an airport!

Thomas Owona Assoumou (photo), director of Aéroports du Cameroun (ADC) published a statement inviting those who have forgotten their luggage at Douala international airport to collect them within 8 days or they will be destroyed.

For social media users, ADC has no right to destroy the luggage. Some of them even say that the measures taken is illegal as under the commercial law, luggage once registered should be protected.

Stopblablacam.com consulted the law N° 2017/013 of July 2017 on punishments for violations of the law on safety of civil aviation.

According to the second paragraph of article 12 of the said law, anyone who leaves a luggage either registered or unregistered in an airport should be fined from CFA100,000 to CFA500,000. It is further stipulated that the culprit could incur a jail sentence (from 10 to 20 years) if the luggage is a dangerous item.

So, the director of ADC is perfectly right. He has even chosen a minimal sentence since the law allows him to take legal actions.
