No, UNESCO is not providing financial assistance as claimed recently

According to a message being shared on Whatsapp, UNESCO is providing financial assistance to poor people around the world.

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) is providing $1,000 to poor people around the world. This was revealed through some Whatsapp messages being circulated. Even though the messages claim that the financial assistance is for poor people, anyone who wishes can subscribe to it via this link: www.good-prize.com/unesco/.

Once you go to the link provided, you are greeted with a message welcoming you to the “official UNESCO web site”. Though poorly designed, this website which is only in French has nothing indicating the UN organization’s activities apart from the Logo and the institution's mission statement. On the other hand, there is no information about the aid nor is there any indication about the eligibility criteria. There is rather a countdown about the visitors online and the number of aid tickets remaining. Furthermore, there are comments of alleged enthusiastic users who got their aids.

Let’s note by the way that those comments occupy about half of the page and prompt visitors to register for the financial aid. Yet, none of those visitors seem to have any particular financial or material need.

This offer is no less than a scam. It has nothing to do with UNESCO whose official website is: https://fr.unesco.org/.

www.good-prize.com/unesco/  is a phishing website created to collect money or personal details from gullible and greedy individuals.

Even though in 2015, UNESCO took part in the elaboration of the sustainable development goals, it does not distribute money freely to poor people. It advocates for education, natural science, social and human science, culture, communication and the implementation of sustainable development goals. By the way, there is no mention of such operations on the institution’s official website.
