In a press statement published on July 23, 2018, the Cameroonian health minister indicated that a counterfeit version of quinine tablets is being sold in Cameroon. This drug is branded "ESSENTIAL DRUGS PROGRAMME" (a counterfeit of the World Health Organisation’s brand) and is labeled Quinine sulfate, lot n° 44680. According to the information written on the pack, it contains 1000 tablets, manufactured in September 2017 and expected to expire in October 2020.
The drug would have been manufactured by Remedica Ltd-Cyprus, a laboratory based in Lymassol, Cyprus but, it does not recognize having manufactured such drug in tablets.
