More than 5,000 people from the Far North region have taken part in the special competition aimed at recruiting 2000 people to join the Rapid Intervention Battalion (BIR) and the Presidential Guard (GP), two elite forces. This was revealed by the Ministry of Defense, which explained that the region accounted for the highest number of applicants.
The Centre region accounts for 3,700 applicants against 1,700 for the South region. According to the government daily Cameroon Tribune, over 20,000 candidates have submitted their applications nationwide. For several days now, they have been undergoing medical examinations. Those shortlisted after that phase will take physical tests.
