Groupement Interpatronal du Cameroun (Gicam), Cameroon's leading employers' organization, is presenting its Code of Good Corporate Governance to the heads of public companies today, December 6, in Yaoundé. The event will conclude with a signing ceremony for interested public companies to formalize their adoption of the code, the release announcing the event indicates.
When the Code was officially launched last March, Gicam emphasized its intention to extend its application beyond its membership to include public companies. This aspiration has been realized in the drafting of the Code, and the organization eagerly anticipates a significant number of public companies embracing this initiative for enhanced corporate governance practices.
Gicam's Code of Good Corporate Governance is designed to strengthen the competitiveness of companies and foster an investment-friendly business environment, according to the organization's explanations. "Good corporate governance is a cornerstone of corporate sustainability and value creation," stated Gicam leaders during the Code's launch.
For the development of that Code, Gicam received financial support from the French Development Agency AFD and Proparco, its agency dedicated to the private sector. The AFD is also backing Gicam's outreach efforts to public companies.
