The First Gendarmerie Region of Yaounde has dismantled a network of forged document manufacturers in the capital. The three alleged forgers and their various equipment were presented to the press on October 17, 2023. According to the gendarmes, the arrested individuals specialized in forging land titles, birth certificates, marriage certificates, identity cards, passports, etc.
Based in the Nkolmesseng and Emana districts, the three individuals used to forge the documents using a computer and forged stamps from various administrations. "They offered land with fraudulent titles to users, who were led to believe they were authentic and therefore swindled," Lieutenant Guy Djouma, head of investigations at the First Gendarmerie Region, told Canal 2 International TV.
When questioned, one of the alleged forgers said he used to scan the forged documents to obtain fake travel visas for the individuals he scams. According to the gendarmerie, the network had been operating in Yaounde for seven years. They will be brought to justice in the next few days, we learn.
