New year’s celebration-AFCON2021: Government sets up “energy task force” to deal with power outages

An energy task force has been working since December 22, 2021, to ensure continuous energy supply for new year celebrations and the AFCON2021 Cameroon will host from January 9 to February 6, 2022.

The task force, which includes all the stakeholders in the electricity sector, was created by a decree signed the same day by  Minister of Water and Energy (Minee), Gaston Eloundou Essomba (photo) to prevent power outages caused notably by electricity generation or supply deficit that ensue when some transmission lines are suspended for maintenance, electric utility ENEO informs.

The decree does not detail the resources dedicated to it or the actions it would take in case of power outages but it is mentioned that the task force will be disbanded at the end of the AFCON2021.
