For the 2021 financial year, the budget of Yaoundé, Cameroon's capital, is about XAF32 billion. The figure disclosed on December 23 by the mayor Luc Messi Atangana is up by XAF660 million compared with the budget of the 2020 financial year.

According to the presentation made by the mayor, in 2021, the city will implement a road maintenance program (in the framework of which an annexed budget was elaborated for mostly operations to be carried out via delegated management). For that purpose, new equipment and materials were acquired (thanks to the city’s resources), Luc Messi Atangana explains.

Also, during the said financial year, the city will acquire lands, compensate some people, build municipal buildings like shops, markets, and public washrooms. In the framework of the construction program, studies are being carried out for the construction of an Olympic-size swimming pool and its related infrastructures at Efoulan-Yaoundé.

In addition, the council intends to build playgrounds and relaxation areas and then develop the southern entrance to the city of Yaounde, through Messamendongo. It also plans to build road sections in some districts and carry out landscaping works.

Let’s note that several projects planned for 2020 have not been executed. According to Luc Messi Atangana, the city failed to implement the projects because of the coronavirus pandemic.
