In a release dated August 31, Cameroon condemns the coup that toppled Gabonese President Ali Bongo on August 30, 2023. The release issued by Communication Minister René Emmanuel Sadi calls for the rapid restoration of constitutional order and "the preservation of the peace and stability” much cherished by citizens in Gabon and the Central African region as a whole.
The Economic Community of Central African States (Ceeac) has also officially condemned the coup, explaining that it violates the principles of the sub-regional organization's treaty.
There is currently no hint as to what the Ceeac intends to do to restore constitutional order in Gabon. Nevertheless, the Ceeac Commission has announced that an extraordinary session of the Conference of Heads of State and Government will be held shortly.
