The health system in Cameroon is a shirt of 55,000 staff, according to the Minister of Public Health (Minsanté), Manaouda Malachie. The official revealed this at a meeting with the Finance and Budget Committee on December 1, 2021.

The latest census found that the health minister employs a total of 39,720 staff, including 11,346 civil servants, 4,846 contract workers, 3,412 decision-makers and 20,116 temporary staff as of 21 September 2021. According to needs, the department is short of nearly 2,000 specialist doctors, 500 general practitioners and 30,000 nurses. At the same time, 500 doctors, pharmacists and dental surgeons from Cameroonian medical schools have been demanding their integration into the civil service for almost a year.

Manaouda Malachie says his ministry needs CFA207.5 billion to "strengthen the availability of quality human resources in health facilities, develop a new human resources development plan and conduct advocacy and social dialogue for the improvement of working conditions of health personnel”.

When defending the budget of his ministerial department in front of MPs, the official proposed the special recruitment of 5,000 staff in 2022.
