As it did in 2019, the Grand Chancellery of National Orders will distinguish 3,350 people during the celebration of the 48th National Day on May 20, 2020.
This is the outcome of the meeting of the Councils of National Orders, held at the Presidential Palace in Yaoundé. That meeting aimed to select, after a rigorous process, the best profiles among those submitted by competent authorities, Grand Chancellor of National Orders Peter Mafany Musonge told Cameroon Tribune.
These medals are awarded to persons who have distinguished themselves through services rendered to Cameroon, both inside and outside the country.
According to Peter Mafany Musonge, as per the quotas set by the President of the Republic, 1,300 Order of Merit and the Medal of Public Force, 300 for the Order of Valour and the Order of Agricultural Merit and 150 for the Order of Sports Merit will be conferred that day.
The ordinance of November 30, 1972, created the Order of Valour, the Cameroonian Order of Merit, the Order of Agricultural Merit and the Order of Sports Merit. In addition to these Orders, the Cameroonian Military Valour Cross was created by the law of July 29, 2010.
In 2019, a law was adopted governing the time required for holders of the Cameroonian orders of Value and Merit to be conferred another higher order. Also, that law harmonized the ranks in Order of Sports Merit with those of the other orders. It also reduced the time required for a holder of that merit to be promoted to a higher rank.
Let’s note that according to Article 4 of the 1972 Ordinance, "the President of the Republic of Cameroon is the Grand Master of all the Orders."
