The Delegate General for National Security (DGSN), Martin Mbarga Nguélé (pictured), signed on October 19, 2020, a decision suspending for three months Police Inspector of 1st grade Bertrand Christian Ntsama Betoukou, on duty at the Central Police Station number 3 of the city of Yaounde.

The police officer is being punished for "hierarchical insubordination and failure to comply with instructions regarding the respect of safety measures related to Covid-19”. The decision specifies that the facts have been established since August.

This is a precautionary measure, pending the police inspector's appearance before the National Safety disciplinary board. However, "for the duration of the suspension, the person concerned will not receive any pay or pay accessories, except, where applicable, the full amount of any dependency allowances.

This sanction raises the problem of compliance with the restrictive measures prescribed by the government last March as part of its response strategy to the Covid-19 pandemic. Although the wearing of face masks is still mandatory in all areas open to the public, a significant part of the population is not complying with the measure.
