Voter registration figures are poor in the Adamaoua region. A week before the end of this operation, the statistics by Elections Cameroon (Elecam) -the body in charge of the material organization, and management of electoral consultations and referendums in Cameroon- shows only 848 new registrants in this northern region. In 2019, Adamaoua registered 37,636 new registrants.
“We started registration with a delay because of the electoral consultations, that is to say, last April. The Covid-19 pandemic has also limited the movement of people. Despite this health disruption, we continue to work in compliance with the safety measures enacted by the government and the World Health Organization (WHO),” said Laurent Aboubakar, the head of the communication, documentation and archives department at Elecam-Adamaoua
Registration operations will continue until August 31. In Adamaoua, 21 permanent posts have been set up by Elecam's regional office. During the double municipal and legislative elections held on February 9, the region's electoral register showed 467,201 registered voters.
