The government has set up measures to ease the procedure for obtaining or renewing passports.

Good news for Cameroonians living outside their country. The government has set up measures to ease the procedure for obtaining or renewing passports.

The Delegate General for National Security (DGSN), Martin Mbarga Nguele, signed a communiqué on 6 March inviting “Cameroonians residing abroad, who have come to Cameroon for various reasons and wish to renew their ordinary biometric passport or to obtain the travel document already requested in their country of residence, to present themselves personally at gate No. 318 of the headquarters building of the General Delegation for National Security.”

The persons concerned must come with the following documents: the expired passport, the pass issued by the consular services of the country of residence used for the journey and the receipt for the passport application.

This measure is intended to resolve a very difficult situation for applicants who complain of abnormally long periods (sometimes a year) in issuing passports. Also, some users accuse police officers of collecting more than the regulatory CFA75,000 for “express passport” in a few hours or days.

Martin Mbarga Nguele, insists that there is no such thing as an “express passport” and that any payment beyond the amount set by the regulations in force is considered corruption.
