The Subdivisional Officer of Meiganga sanctions individuals who do not respect safety measures. A related operation was launched on February 22 to that effect.

In a press release, the Subdivisional Officer Max Mbella said all persons caught without masks will be arrested and sent to the public security police station and the gendarmerie brigade.

The administrative authority also promises closure and sanctions against heads of public services who fail to provide hand washing equipment at their locations.

According to district health chief Mohamadou Bakary, interviewed by L'œil du Sahel, 50 new cases were registered between February 8 and 23, bringing the overall number of positive cases to 88, including 50 active cases and one death in the region.

The health district has "initiated mass screening in schools and communities.” Also, all hospitalized patients and nurses are systematically screened in all health facilities.

The local authorities are also conducting awareness-raising and educational talks in public places through the training of 125 community health workers for surveillance and active case finding.
