Financial Constraints Hamper Cameroon's Universal Health Coverage Progress, Technical Unit Says

Paru le vendredi, 01 mars 2024 13:50

Recent weekly reports from the National Technical Unit (CTN) for Universal Health Coverage (CSU) consistently highlight the insufficiency of the financial resources allocated to it. This observation is echoed by Malachie Manaouda, the Minister of Public Health, who advocates for an increase in the budget for CTN-CSU’s activities, currently set at XAF95 billion for the first phase.

The unit believes that additional funding would undoubtedly boost Cameroon’s CSU enrolment rate. In its weekly update for the week of February 13 to 19, 2024, CTN-CSU reported over 2.2 million enrolments, a figure deemed average.

To expedite enrolment, CTN-CSU plans to enhance communication channels to better promote the CSU and attract more individuals. The CSU aims to ensure that the entire population has access to necessary preventive, curative, palliative, rehabilitative, and health promotion services of sufficient quality without causing financial hardship for users, as stated on its dedicated website.
