A traffic accident on National Road No. 4, connecting Yaoundé in the Centre region to Bafoussam in the West, resulted in five fatalities on Friday, according to Garba Bakari, a senior divisional officer of Mbam-et-Inoubou, who spoke to public radio CRTV.

The incident, which took place around 3 pm between the localities of Ndikiniméki and Kon-Yambetta, involved a collision between an intercity bus and a Toyota Yaris. “The bus, traveling west from Bafia, made an error during an overtaking maneuver, colliding head-on with the Toyota Yaris,” Bakari explained.

All five casualties were occupants of the Toyota Yaris. The bus passengers, many of whom sustained injuries, were transported to Ndikiniméki Hospital. Their conditions have not worsened, indicating no immediate threat to their lives, Garba said. The deceased have been moved to the morgue at Bafia Hospital, he added.

This accident follows a similar incident on the same route on February 6, which resulted in at least six deaths and ten injuries. Furthermore, on December 27, 2020, a collision between a bus and a lorry in Ndikiniméki led to the deaths of at least 37 people, including ten women and four children, marking one of the deadliest accidents in Cameroon’s history.
