Health Minister Cracks Down on 68 Hygiene Companies for Non-Compliance

On April 1, Public Health Minister Manaouda Malachie enacted two decisions impacting several private firms in the hygiene and sanitation sector. The first decision suspends the licenses of 43 companies for a renewable three-month period, during which they are prohibited from performing disinfection, rodent control, insect control, and other sanitation tasks. These companies are primarily located in Douala and Yaoundé. The suspension follows an inspection conducted between October and November 2023, as detailed in the minister’s decision.

The second decision permanently revokes the licenses of 25 private hygiene and sanitation companies, barring them from all previously mentioned activities. This decision was based on an inspection report compiled by the Health Promotion Department of the Ministry of Public Health.

These decisions by the Ministry of Public Health are grounded in a January 3, 2005 order, which outlines the terms for granting, renewing, suspending, or revoking the licenses of private hygiene and sanitation companies.
