Cameroon inaugurated its first hypermarket yesterday July 5 in a ceremony held at the PlaYce mall in Yaoundé. The Carrefour hypermarket, operated by the French Group Cfao Retail, covers a sales area of 4,000 m2. It will be officially open to the public today July 6.

"It will offer a wide range of food and non-food products (quality products) at the most competitive prices," said Luc Demez, MD of Cfao Retail Cameroon. This opening comes at a time when the prices of consumer goods are currently soaring in the local market.

To offer its customers the best products at affordable prices, Carrefour said it has partnered with local suppliers who provide the majority of products on the shelves. The objective is "to significantly improve the quality of life of people in Yaoundé and surroundings," Luc Demez said. This hypermarket is the sixth Carrefour store in Cameroon. Four are in Douala (Carrefour Market in Bonamoussadi, Akwa, Grand Mall, and the Supeco supermarket in Akwa) and one is in the Ekié district in Yaoundé.
