In a press release issued yesterday, September 6, Nachtigal Hydro Power Company (NHPC) recalls the tragedy of August 30, when a subcontractor's boat capsized on the Sanaga River. Five of the subcontractor’s employees “working on the reservoir” were onboard, NHPC explains adding that all of them were wearing life jackets. It indicates that three of the employees were rescued in the hours following the accident and are all “doing well.”
As for the two remaining, they are still unaccounted for, despite the “substantial resources” deployed to find them.
This is the first time NHPC is communicating about the tragedy that occurred over a week ago. Meanwhile, social media users have extensively reported on the accident and the search for the missing employees. Some of the posts even portray a weeping woman as the mother of one of the victims of the accident.
Let’s note that NHPC was established in 2016 with its main mission being to design, finance, and build the Nachtigal hydroelectric dam, on the Sanaga River. It is set to operate the energy infrastructure for 35 years.
