"The Secretary-General strongly condemns the 6 November attack against civilians in Egbekaw, Mamfe district in the South-West Region," reads a "Statement attributable to the Spokesperson for the Secretary-General", dated November 7.
“The Secretary-General stresses that attacks against civilians are unacceptable,” the statement stresses.
The UN took that opportunity to urge “all Cameroonian stakeholders to work towards a political solution to the crisis in the North-West and South-West Regions of Cameroon."
This statement is the first official reaction from a senior international official after the Egbekaw attack that claimed 25 lives, including five women and a child. According to official figures, nine people were also wounded in the attack. In a statement yesterday, the Minister of Communication attributed the massacre to the separatist militia Manyu Unity Warriors, "a secessionist terrorist group affiliated to the so-called Ambazonian Defense Forces."
