The latest official statistics published by the government on September 2 reported a total of 19,604 cases of coronavirus in Cameroon. Of this number, at least 814 cases are health workers. According to data, the pandemic has also killed 20 of these health workers so far.

With 216 cases, the Littoral region has the highest number of affected caregivers. It is followed by the West (134 cases) and the Northwest (119 cases).

Health professionals have faced a lack of personal protective equipment (PPE). Last May, the National Medical Association of Cameroon (ONMC) called on the government to ensure that all caregivers are protected by providing them with appropriate PPE and other safety devices.

As a reminder, the Health Minister, Manaouda Malachie, has donated protection equipment to the health facilities dedicated to Covid-19. Development partners have also supported the government’s action against the pandemic.
