Last year, the government recruited 5,479 teachers who graduated from teacher training schools. They are specifically 916 teachers from ENS Yaoundé, 821 from ENS Maroua, 342 from ENS Bamenda, 554 from ENS Bertoua, 1290 from Enset Douala, 573 from Enset Bamenda, 484 from Enset Kumba, and 469 from Enset Ebolowa.
The specific details were revealed by the Ministry of Higher Education during a meeting organized last January 4, by an interministerial ad hoc committee on the challenges faced by secondary school teachers in the processing of their career acts and salary procedures.
According to the report submitted by Collectif des enseignants indignés du Cameroun, a teachers’ union, 5,231of the recruited teachers have been effectively deployed. “ (..) the Ministry of Secondary Education is still expecting the Ministry of Higher Education’s decision concerning 248 teachers, mostly from ENS Maroua,” the report adds.
Currently, according to the Ministry of Finance, in 2021, 93,773 secondary school teachers were paid from the state budget while 1,476 secondary school staff, mostly contractual teachers are awaiting payment.
