The University of Yaounde II-Soa and the company Elite Trends Group (ETG) are planning, within the framework of a public-private partnership, to experiment with the implementation of the Cameroon State University Cities Development (CSUCD) Project on the campus of this State University.
The two partners signed a MoU during a ceremony chaired by the Minister of Higher Education, Jacques Fame Ndongo, on 11 June 2020. Present in Cameroon since last February, the heads of ETG should launch, before the end of the year, the construction of a university residence with 12,500 rooms for 20,000 students, a 3-star hotel block, and two restaurants.
The implementation of the Cameroon State University Cities Development (CSUCD) Project, which is estimated at CFA205 billion, is expected to last 5 years. It aims at providing Cameroonian students and those from states in the sub-region with affordable high quality furnished accommodation.
According to ETG, this accommodation will have multi-optional features namely: furnished rooms, reading rooms, kitchens on each floor with fire and smoke detectors, a conference room with audiovisual equipment, and WIFI services, laundromats, access being secured by a card.
The CSUCD intends to improve the supply of housing and reduce the shortage of student accommodation and equipment. Also, it aims to improve the working space for students, teachers, employees, and the entire university community. Above all, the University of Yaoundé II-Soa, which has 37,000 students with nearly 1,000 teachers, aims to become a social science technopole.
ETG is a group of professional-consultants involved in investments in North America, Europe and Africa, and who have chosen to invest in projects for the construction and development of university cities with equipped housing. The University of Yaoundé II-Soa was chosen as the pilot state university for the project in Cameroon.
