The 2023 Africa Cup of Nations group stage draw took place in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire yesterday, October 12. From the draw, it appears that Cameroon is in Group C, with defending champion Senegal as well as Guinea and Gambia.
The first and second-placed teams in each group - as well as the four best third-placed teams in the competition - will advance to the Round of 16. The winner will follow in the footsteps of Senegal, winners of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon. The highly anticipated match in the Group will be Cameroon vs Senegal. The friendly match between the two teams on October 16 at the Stade Bollaert-Delelis in Lens, France, will serve as a testing ground for the Cameroonian team, which is going for the 2023 AFCON to win their sixth continental crown.
Cameroon last met Senegal at the 2017 AFCON in Gabon. They beat the Senegalese team on penalties (5-4) in the quarter-finals, after a goalless draw in regulation time.
