An attack attributed to separatists has been recorded in Belo, in the Boyo department, North-West region. According to local sources, an ambush by some armed men resulted in the killing of three soldiers and an unknown death toll on the attackers’ side.
The army is yet to comment on the attack, but separatist leader Mark Bareta confirmed the death of three soldiers. "Ambazonia forces [ed. note: the name given by separatists to their imaginary country] strike a blow for freedom in Belo Boyo County, eliminating 3 Cameroonian Soldiers,” he wrote on his Twitter page.
This attack comes a week after the massacre in Mamfe (South-West region), where gunmen suspected of being separatist fighters killed 25 people during a night raid.
The separatist conflict in the North-West and South-West regions has been going on since 2017. According to international organizations, the war has already claimed nearly 6,000 lives and caused hundreds of thousands of people to flee their homes.
