The next edition of the Nguon festival will be held from November 29 to December 8, 2024, in the heart of Foumban, the capital of the Noun region in the West. The dates were announced by the Sultan King of the Bamoun, Nabil Mbombo Njoya during a reception held on Sunday, December 10, following the inclusion of Nguon on the prestigious Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Addressing the attendees, Nabil Mbombo Njoya expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Head of State for the invaluable institutional support that facilitated the successful Nguon dossier, according to the state-owned Cameroon Daily.

Founded in the 14th century by the Bamoun people, the Nguon festival is held every two years in Foumban. This celebration serves as a platform for the Bamoun community to gather, openly express their ideas and concerns, and forge a deeper connection with their king. During this special period, societal hierarchies and privileges temporarily dissolve, fostering a sense of unity and shared purpose.

On December 6, 2023, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) recognized Nguon as a set of "rituals of governance" by inscribing it on the Intangible Heritage of Humanity list. The designation, awarded during the 18th session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage in Kasane, Botswana, marks a significant milestone for Cameroon as it is the first national intangible cultural element to be included on this list.
