Last week, Minister of Housing and Urban Development (Minhdu) Célestine Ketcha Courtès, unveiled plans to rehabilitate and construct nearly 146 kilometers of urban roads across major cities, including Maroua and Bamenda. These projects are part of a broader initiative to improve urban mobility, which Minhdu has identified as the main priority for the department, ahead of housing.

Minhdu revealed that urban mobility will absorb almost 70% of the ministry's financial resources, totaling XAF148.4 billion for the current financial year. In addition to urban road development, Minhdu is also focusing on constructing bypasses and rehabilitating crossroads to enhance traffic flow in the country's major cities.

In Yaoundé, Minhdu is preparing to launch the "Cœur de ville" project, which aims to revamp the capital's road infrastructure to alleviate traffic congestion. The project is financed by the French Development Agency AFD, to the tune of XAF46.2 billion,  through the Debt Reduction-Development Contract (C2D), with the Cameroonian government contributing an additional XAF8.5 billion.
