From August 21 to September 3, the esplanade of Boulevard du 20 Mai, in Yaoundé, will host “Rentrée Commerciale 2023,” a promotional sale of school supplies (backpacks, notebooks, rulers, pens, etc.) and other consumer products. This operation will end on September 3, on the eve of the start of the new school year.
According to Romuald Ombede Nama, regional delegate of the Ministry of Commerce, the aim of the “special sale” is to "make things easier for parents” on the eve of the 2023-2024 school year, which is scheduled to start on September 4. This operation, instituted a few years ago by the Ministry of Commerce (Mincommerce), enables people to acquire school supplies and consumer goods at lower prices.
This year, it comes amid widespread inflation, which is affecting households’ purchasing power. According to Mincommerce, this promotional campaign is part of the implementation of the government's policy to combat the high cost of living. To this end, parents and other consumers are invited "to take advantage of this event to come and stock up at promotional prices accessible to all, in order to have a less stressful back-to-school period," the regional delegate writes.
