Only 502 kilometers of the 13,817 kilometers of regions roads will be maintained this year, Minister of Public Works Emmanuel Nganou Djoumessi revealed at the 25th session of the National Road Council on March 16 in Yaoundé.  

According to the government official, the road maintenance program includes 17 projects, for which a XAF3.4 billion budget has been set aside. The projects also provide for the maintenance of 291 kilometers of engineering structures, we learn. 

Meanwhile, over XAF26 billion will be released for the maintenance of communal roads. Specifically, XAF12 billion will come from the 2022 public investment budget while XAF12 billion will be from the 2022 Road Fund and XAF1.2 billion from the remaining budget that was not used the previous year.  

According to the Ministry of Public Works’ 2022 Road Fund financing program, XAF800 billion is required to maintain the whole national road network. However, only XAF41 billion is budgeted for the purpose.
