Incumbent operator CAMTEL will kick off the rollout of an additional 3,500 kilometers of terrestrial fiber across Cameroon in 2024. The plan was announced by Judith Yah Sunday, CAMTEL’s CEO, in her opening address at Digital Week Cameroon, in Yaounde, earlier today. It aims to complement the 12,000 kilometers of optical fiber already deployed to meet the concession needs since CAMTEL is the exclusive owner of the fiber deployed in Cameroon.
According to Ms. Judith Yah Sunday, the additional infrastructure, coupled with the existing ones, will enable Cameroon to meet its connectivity and digital transformation needs. In her address, the CEO indicated that the current fiber optic network covers the country’s ten regions, 51 of its 58 divisions, and 209 of the 260 targeted districts. For the CEO, this additional fiber will above all cover rural areas.
Cameroon's fiber optic network includes links to Chad, Central Africa, Equatorial Guinea, and Gabon.
