Cameroon drops in FIFA rankings after AFCON exit

Cameroon's disappointing exit from the Africa Cup of Nations has seen the country slip five places in the latest FIFA rankings released on Thursday.

The Indomitable Lions, who ranked 46th at the end of 2023, are now 51st and have dropped 10.45 points. In Africa, they slide two spots to 9th place, with Algeria (43rd) taking their place in 7th despite a global ranking drop of 13 positions.

Despite the dip, Cameroon remains within Africa's top 10. Leaders Morocco (12th) and runners-up Senegal (17th) retained their continental standings, while Nigeria, beaten finalists at the AFCON, enjoyed a significant 14-place climb to 28th globally and third in Africa.

Host Côte d’Ivoire, which clinched the AFCON title, saw their ranking jump 10 places to 39th, while Angola (93rd) achieved the biggest rise - 24 spots - after reaching the quarter-finals.

No changes occurred in the world's top 10 due to the lack of matches in Europe and America since November, with reigning champions Argentina maintaining their lead ahead of France and England.

The next FIFA men's ranking update is scheduled for April 4.
