Maroua: Between jubilation and concerns, opinions are shared about the newly enthroned Lamido

Last September 16, the new lamido of Maroua was elected. This election was followed by jubilation with many youths thanking God and expressing their joy. According to local TV Baba Info, since his enthronement, Abdoulaye Yerima Bakari (photo), the new lamido, has received numerous delegations of friends, relatives, traditional authorities, and even the town's administrative authorities, who have come to congratulate him.

A resident of Maroua, who barely conceals his joy, speaks of Abdoulaye Yerima Bakari as "a very special person, always close to the people, experienced and very humble". Others wish him happiness and success saying they wish he would work to ensure the people he administers are happy.

However, not everyone is sharing the same enthusiasm about the election of the new Lamido. Many argue that Abdoulaye Yerima Bakari has had a poor record as mayor of Maroua II (2007-2020). An Internet user who hails from Dogba, like the new lamido, even adds that his poor record cost the ruling party CPDM the district commune, which was lost to the Front for the National Salvation of Cameroon.

Abdoulaye Yerima Bakari is the 2nd degree chief of Dogba and a CPDM activist. He is also known as an agricultural promoter, and is Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Société de coopération pour l'épargne et le développement du Diamaré. He is now the 16th monarch of the lamidat of Maroua.
