CRTV reports this morning that the updated death toll from the collapse of a four-story building in Douala's Ndogbong district is 33, with 54 injured, including 5 in critical condition. These figures have been confirmed by hospital sources but not by administrative authorities.
A few hours after the tragedy at the end of the weekend, Samuel Dieudonné Ivaha Diboua, Governor of the Littoral region, announced a death toll of 12, with many more injured being treated at the Deido district hospital and the Laquentinie hospital in Douala. The death toll rose to 16 on July 23, according to CRTV. It is now estimated at around 30 with the situation likely to worsen as the search continues.
Célestine Ketcha Courtes, Minister of Housing and Urban Development (Minhdu), visited the scene and an investigation has been launched to find out the circumstances of this tragedy.
