The Nicolas Barre Hospital Center in Ekounou, Yaoundé, in partnership with the NGOs Ver Africa of Seville and Zerca Y Lejos of Madrid, Spain, is organizing an orthopedic and trauma surgery campaign from June 1 to July 15, 2021. The Catholic hospital opened the census of potential beneficiaries of the operation on April 26.

According to the hospital, this initiative concerns patients suffering from carpal tunnel syndromes (cramps or pain in the fingers), limb deformities, knee or ankle ligament ruptures, chronic osteitis, cysts, and tumors of the locomotor system, chronic ulcers, new or neglected fractures, etc.

The operations, almost entirely paid for by the institution and its partners, will be performed by a team of Spanish and Cameroonian specialists in surgery or physiotherapy.

"This campaign is beneficial for many Cameroonians, especially the poor, who cannot afford to pay, for example, one million CFA francs for the operation of a complex fracture," said a practitioner. Post-operative follow-up will also be done on-site.
