The Chamber of Investigation Control of the Court of Appeal of the Central region rejected the request for bail of Jean Pierre Amougou Belinga (pitured) after a speedy hearing. This decision does not surprise actors of the legal world since it is very rare for judges to grant bail to a defendant who is facing a life sentence.
Jean Pierre Amougou Belinga is being prosecuted for complicity in torture in connection with the case of Martinez Zogo, the radio host who was kidnapped and found dead last January. The businessman was charged last March and remanded to Kondengui Central Prison.
With this verdict, his pool of lawyers loses one of the first major battles in the war with the lawyers of Martinez Zogo's beneficiaries.
