Cameroon’s National Anti-Corruption Commission (Conac) warns against online fraud during the year-end exam period. “A new form of cybercrime is developing which consists in offering candidates false tests for official exams,” François Anoukaha, vice-president of Conac, said in a statement.
The communiqué states that the scammers invite their targets to download the fake exams by depositing money in their Mobile Money accounts. They contact their victims through Facebook or WhatsApp accounts supposedly belonging to the various institutions in charge of organizing the tests.
The commission “invites the candidates to the various official exams not to give in to these new forms of online fraud and corruption.” It promises a systematic prosecution that may go as far as bringing those involved in these practices before the competent courts.
