Cameroon: About 20 separatist fighters surrender

Paru le mercredi, 17 mai 2023 17:52

At least 18 separatist fighters surrendered yesterday to authorities in the department of Ndian, Southwest. These now ex-fighters are led by "General Baron", a militia leader. According to CRTV radio, they have been convinced and trained for social reintegration by the command of the 21st battalion of the national navy, based in Mundemba. The media also reported that they said they “regret having caused terror and insecurity in several villages in the Mundemba district”.

The men who surrendered are expected to be housed in the disarmament, demobilization, and reintegration centers (CNDDR) created by the president of the Republic to house armed separatists who wish to return to civilian life.

Let’s note that disarmament, demobilization, and reintegration centers are located in Buea, in the Southwest, and Bamenda, in the Northwest. The Southwest Center was inaugurated in November 2021 and has already welcomed many ex-combatants.
